The generosity of the Thai people continues to amaze me.
Today we decided to go bowling and have dinner at a bowling alley about three kilometers down the street from our house. We rode in a tuktuk to get there. (The same one that brought us home after buying groceries.) We had our fun bowling and were leaving to come home. Of course, being as it was about 8:30 PM, there weren't any motorbike taxies or tuktuks around. So we started to walk home. We tried flagging down any tuktuk or baht bus we saw. Of course, they all had passengers or ignored our hand waves. After about 1/2 kilometer, a truck pulled over and asked where we were going. He said he was going to SriRacha. Our house is along the way, so he offered to drive us. Just an ordinary person, not a taxi or baht bus.
So Devin hops in the cab and David and I hop in the back of the truck and we start going along. We get to the entry way to our village and we hop out. I get out 40 Baht (approximately what the tuktuk would have cost) and offer to pay him. He refused to accept my cash. He simply wanted to help us out.
It's these kind of things that continue to impress me about the people of Thailand. The ubiquitous generous and accomodating spirit of the Thais is something I admire a great deal.
