Japan - Day 2 - Aquarium

21st December, 2007

Wow, we actually slept in today.  Woohoo!

After grabbing breakfast, we figured out the train route to a local aquarium.  It's on the top of a shopping mall.  I thought it was weird to have an aquarium on the top floor of a shopping mall.  But it turned out to be a lot of fun.  Right away we saw a Santa diving in the fish tank feeding the sharks and fish.  Very cool.  There were quite a few exhibits, and we had a great time.  After the aquarium, we found some lunch at the mall, and headed to a different train station to find another place to visit:  The Japanese Traditional Craft Center.  Little did we know they would be hosting a musical performance of some traditional Japanese music.  This is the kind of impromptu stuff we really love while on vacation.

Our destination after the craft center was very special.  You need to sit down for this one.  We got to ride the tallest escalator in the world!  (Well, the guide book says it's the tallest in the world.)  Actually, David quite enjoyed the ride, and there was some cool art exhibited at the top.  We poked around for a while, then grabbed a train home for dinner and some much needed rest after walking around all day.

Some pictures are below.  Click on a picture to see a larger version.

This exhibit was a "no-frills" water tank, but it had to sunfish (mola mola) swimming around.  These are very cool fish!

Woohoo!  Ride 'em cowgirl.

This was an outdoors "smoking area."  Very interesting...

...tallest escalator in the world.  (So they say.)
