The Weekend at Rayong Resort

Saturday and Sunday, August 4th and 5th, 2007

Well, what a great start to the school year.  Saturday morning we were picked up by a school van and driven to the Rayong Resort for a school retreat.  We had some workshops about Thai culture and language, along with some team building (my team lost...but we had fun) and good food.  We also took a cruise on a boat to the island of Ko Samet.  We didn't exit the boat...we simply cruised out and back with snacks and drinks.  There was a bit when the seas were rough...so it was kind of fun walking around.  Then we went to dinner (see the food page for a description).  Sunday morning, we ate breakfast and were delivered back to our apartment.  Loads of fun!

View from our hotel room at the Rayong Resort.  Nice, huh?

I thought the architecture was kind of cool.  This is a view of the ceiling at one of the restaurants.

The captain and staff, with some of us lounging on the boat.

Looking back at our hotel from the dock after the boat ride.

One thing that is found in every business is a tribute to His Majesty, King Bhumibol.  (And in many cases, there is a tribute to the queen also.)  The picture's not all that great...but it's something I haven't highlighted yet in my pictures.

From where I was sitting, there was a giant tribute to King Bhumibol.  At the Thai Culture workshop, we gained insight into the historical significance of the King's work for the people of Thailand.  It was quite interesting and informative.

The big yellow school bus that took us back to the hotel after dinner.  This will likely be the bus that takes David to school.
