Visit to Koh Larn - aka The 20 Baht Ferry Ride
Saturday, August 25th: We decided to visit a local island, Koh Larn, with some friends of ours from school. So we headed out on a Baht Bus to the ferry terminal where we had to pay the exorbitant price of 20 Baht per person to ride the ferry. For the "currency conversionally challenged" among you, that's less than $1. Try riding the Washington State Ferries for less than $1! Check out the prices for our trip:

The last time we took a "beach break" similar to today we were on a cruise, and the beach day cost almost $200. And here's the cool thing about this: WE LIVE HERE! We can do this any weekend we'd like! A couple times while we were sitting on the beach, Devin and I looked at each other and said, "Can you believe this? We live here." It's kind of weird still. But I'm not complaining!
So here are some pictures. Click on the picture to see a larger image.

Here's the street where we always catch the Baht Bus to get somewhere. For the first time, I actually bartered by saying the numbers in Thai. Kind of fun! I've been working on learning the numbers. So we paid neung roy jet sip Baht to get to the ferry terminal. (170 Baht, not including tip) |

The listings for the ferry to Koh Larn. There are other options...but they all cost more than the ferry. |

The "pier" at Koh Larn...hmmm...wonder if those planks would support me... Luckily, we didn't have to find out. |
Looking at the pier as we arrive...what's in the big white bags? |

One bad thing was the trash on the beach before they came out to collect it. Not pretty...but the water was great otherwise. |
Devin getting ready to lounge. |
I'm such a nerd! Here's a tunicate of some sort...small invertebrate animal...so I had to take a picture. In Puget Sound, similar tunicates are an invasive species that I've worked to survey...not sure which species this one is yet. |

One of our friends, Joe, spotted a jelly in the water while we were swimming. So of course, I had to get my camera and take pictures! |

Waiting for the Baht Bus to get a ride back to the pier. The beach we went to is called Samae, and we rented chairs from Madam Ooh. Nice place. And only 10 Baht to use the toilet! |
Looking up the beach... |
I spotted this wind farm up the hill from the beach. Only one turbine was actually spinning... |
