Lowell and David get ready for school!

Tuesday, 14th August 2007 was the first day of school for Lowell and David.  Both are very excited to be starting the school year.  (Although truthfully, I wish my summer was a bit longer...my school in Tukwila didn't end until June 27th.  But I find it hard to complain.  I am, after all, in Thailand.) 

Sorry that it's been a while since we've updated the website.  Things got a bit busy over the past week and a half as I've been getting ready for school.  (As I type this...an exact quote from David:  "Hey Dad.  I'm already used to kindergarten."  It's about 5:45 PM after our first day.)  Sunday I got a day of diving (pictures later) and Monday was a work day to prepare for the start of school.  I teach five classes (out of a possible eight) so my schedule is fairly similar to my previous schedule...except my classes are MUCH smaller.  I have six students in my second-year chemistry class.  My biggest class right now is 14.  I've never had a class that small before...so life is good.  I've been working hard trying to get ready, and I already feel behind...life never changes...but I like my school so far.  My kids today were great.  I just need to start learning names.  (And by the way, if you'd like to visit my school webpage:  http://eaglescience.com)  This is my own science page, not the official school page.  I use this for my classes as a teaching tool. 

Otherwise, I'd say life here has been quite good.  Saturday we got to go to the pool again...I posted pictures of the pool area on an earlier day.  David is REALLY tan now.  He doesn't get his skin complexion from me, that's for sure!  I am purchasing three "tailored" shirts from a tailor that is in my building.  One is a nice purple...imagine that...and two are going to be yellow.  It is current Thai custom to wear a yellow shirt on Monday to honor His Majesty, the King.  I think I mentioned this in an earlier post also.  I'd like to be part of the culture here, so I am getting a few shirts in yellow.  When I asked David what his favorite part of school was... "Recess!  Two times."  I put a piece of his artwork below to share also.  He thought it was cool that all of you could see his drawing.  He's taking it to school tomorrow for his teacher.

Sorry that my writing today is a bit disjointed...I've had to start and stop a few times while in the middle of setting up this page.

David spent some time this evening drawing the picture above.  He says he's the "biggest kid in the class" so he's bigger than all of the other kids.  The teacher, Miss Marg, is on the left with the long hair.  His school bus is in the background.
