Diving Day - Koh Rin and North Rock

Lowell gets to dive again!

Saturday 13th October, I got to hit the beautiful green waters of the Gulf of Thailand again. I dove the island of Koh Rin and North Rock. (Same as my previous dive...it tends to be the Saturday destination and that was the day most convenient for me to dive...)

I had two great dives, although for the North Rock dive, the current was pretty strong again, so we didn't quite make it all the way around the island. We were attempting to circumnavigate the island... Almost.

Coral formation.	Magnificent Sea Anemone with a Pink Anemonefish.	Not the greatest picture...but it shows a good side view of an anemone.	A school of fish. (A type of barracuda, I think.) It was very cool to be surrounded by this swarm...moving quickly about us.


A soft coral/anemone that I haven't identified.	A goatfish. It's a bottom feeder, and has "whiskers" on its chin similar to a catfish.	A coral.	Another coral/anemone that I haven't been able to identify yet.


A sea cucumber.	A coral formation with an urchin on the side.	Some fish chomping on the coral.	An urchin in a small hole in the sandy bottom. Not sure why it was in there...looking for dinner, I assume.


An alabaster sea cumber. Well, quite a few of them on this sponge...	A coral formation.	A filefish. Very cool looking. I got some video of it chomping on the coral too.	I think this is a feather star...wish I had taken more pictures.


Squirrelfish.	An anemone all closed up. Likely digesting some food.	A bivalve.	Another one of those pesky coral/anemone formations to identify. They are very difficult for me to figure out...I need to find better ID books.


A blue-spotted stingray. I got some video of it swimming also. Very beautiful animal.	A "mushroom" coral formation.	A fish on the reef.	A shortnose boxfish. This thing was VERY COOL looking. I call it a "Volvo" fish, as it's kind of boxy like our old station wagon.

A giant clam. And I mean GIANT. It was over a foot wide. Huge!	A soft coral formation.	Another bivalve to identify.	Another giant clam. Very cool colors.


	The view from the water of North Rock, which we tried to circumnavigate. We didn't make it all the way around (too much current) but it was a great dive anyway.
