Sunday July 29th

Wow.  I am spoiled.

Today Devin cooked us a hearty American breakfast...eggs, bacon, toast with jam, pineapple.  It was fantastic.  Then we putzed around the house for a bit until checking out the pool at the resort next door to our condo.  Part of our rental agreement includes a "guest" membership at the Long Beach Garden Resort that is right next door.  It allows us to use their pool, fitness center, and beach.  So today was the day...we got the guest cards downstairs and went over to check out the pool.  And what a pool it was!  It's got two levels, a bar with relatively cheap food (a bit more expensive than other places...resort prices...but still fairly cheap.)  Something tells me we'll be back to this place soon enough.

And in the middle of it all was a huge deluge of rain, with some lightning and thunder to boot.  So we stayed out of the pool for a while to let things calm down.  When it rains here it really rains.  One nice thing about the rain is that it cools the air a bit.  It's very noticeable.  It stopped for a while...then started up again so we headed back to our apartment.  A guy can get used to this!  (Pictures of the pool area can be found in tomorrow's discussion...)

After showering and taking a nap, we all decided to head to Carrefour for some more shopping.  A few pictures below...

There are a few lizards/geckos that tend to hang around inside and outside of our apartment.  I figure since they eat insects, they are a good thing to have around.  Now I just need to convince David... Remember I mentioned I'd tell you about the wires.  Well, the wiring around here seems to be a bit...um...haphazard, shall we say. It's quite possible this is one reason the Internet service has gone down at least once a day for a few minutes, up to a few hours. Is that up to code?  All of these pictures were taken in the back of a Baht bus, so they might not be the best quality.

The ubiquitous motorbikes.  These are lined up at Carrefour.  And there are more behind me, and more on the other side of the parking garage. A taste of home!  Washington Apples, here in Thailand.  This is a fruit called Durian.  We haven't tried it yet...but it apparently smells...quite malodorous.  But if you can get past the smell, it has a good flavor.  So we've been told.  Don't worry...all in good time! Devin trying to find something at the grocery store.  (Carrefour in this case.  It's kind of like a large Fred Meyer, with a bit of everything.)  Buying groceries can be a bit of a challenge, though.
