Family Hike to Cascada Urlatora in Busteni

September 18th, 2010

The family packed the Bumblebee and headed for the mountains to find the waterfall David and I looked for previously. Along the way we passed a caravan of Gypsies in horse-drawn carriages. What a sight!

This time, I had Devin navigating from the map and we found it straight away. The trail was pretty decent, but rocky, fireroad most of the way. The trail meanders a bit, with a creek right next to it that provides some nice "babbling brook" sound effects. David even commented when we got out of the car, "Wow, I love the smell of the mountain air." This is why we moved here. The mountains.

Devin got a bit tired when it reached a steep section so she headed back to the car, but David and I pushed on for about 15 more minutes to the waterfall. Truthfully, the waterfall itself was cool but the surroundings (people with poor "mountain" behavior and litter everywhere) were a bit underwhelming. But we had fun getting there. So we turned around, had a quick snack, then finished the trip back at the car where Devin was waiting for us. On the way down, David and I chatted with a local couple and shared stories of our travels. Definitely a cool interaction.

Once we got back to the car, we headed just down the street in Busteni to the park for a picnic. What a great way to spend a Saturday!
